Galop is a style of dance set to lively music in 2/4 time that became
fashionable in the mid-19th century. It was usually the last dance of the
evening. The Can-Can, which was originally a dance for couples, is an
extreme version of a Galop. Below is part of a composition by Franz List.
OF the romance dances of the 19th century, the most popular where: Waltz, Galop,
Polka, Schottische and Polka-Mazurka.

Before gaining popularity in America, the Galop was already popular in the ball rooms of Europe. This style also influenced American music such as Country-Western dance and Rag-Time.
